Asian trade delegation checks out Sault forestry players

 
An incoming trade delegation from Vietnam is touring forest product companies in the Sault Ste. Marie area, Sept. 16.

The event is being organized by the Ontario Wood Products Export Association, which recently opened an office in the Sault at the Great Lakes Forestry Centre.

The Asian buyers will be touring Flakeboard Company, Garden River Truss Company, Midway Lumber in Thessalon and possibly the Sault Multi-Modal Terminal Inc. said research assistant Mary Medaglia, who is looking to recruit more Northern Ontario members to the association. The Markham-headquartered association is headed by executive director Mark Angelini.

A FedNor-sponsored reception will be held at the Great Northern Hotel and Conference Centre.

The group, established in 2006, wants to promote Ontario forest products on a global stage. The association has hosted trade missions from Vietnam and Pakistan and works with foreign trade commissioners to develop leads with buyers wanting Ontario wood products. They also send reps to major international building trade shows.
