More and more students have been seeking out Northern College for fall 2009, driving up applications by 24 per cent so far.

In response, the school has raised the cap for its Electrical Engineering Technician/Technology program from 54 seats to 72  to accommodate the growing number of applicants.

This increase is being credited in part to the growing number of people making use of the province's Second Career program, which provides financial assistance to laid-off workers to be retrained.

Other factors include the continued strength of Northern College's health sciences programs, and the new intake for the environmental technician program at the Kirkland Lake campus this fall.
