AbitibiBowater is running tests on its idled No. 6 paper machine in Fort Frances to determine if it can be used to make different types of paper.
It has been shut down since early March because of poor market conditions. The machine, which makes SCA (glossy) paper, is being tested to investigate its capabilities to make heavier paper. The machine will be shut down after the tests are complete. The tests will hopefully improve the mill's viability.
AbitibiBowater is currently under creditor protection in Canada and the U.S. to restructure its $6 billion debt.
