In addition to its perfect location on beautiful Lake Temiskaming, the Waterfront Inn in New Liskeard has given its guests a lot more reasons to enjoy their stay.

Earlier this year, the inn completed a $1 million renovation from top to bottom.

“It was built in 1989 and it was the first major renovation we did,” said manager Sean Mackey.

“What we have done is create a boutique hotel, right here in Northern Ontario. We are only a few short steps from Lake Temiskaming and not many hotels in this day and age would be able to be built that close to the water.”

The lobby, corridor, meeting space and all 40 rooms are brand new, sporting fresh wallpaper, carpets, furniture and TVs. Guests are now offered a free breakfast, complete with a Tassimo coffee maker to give them that feeling of home.

All the new finishes such as carpets, lighting and art work were custom designed and won’t be seen in any other hotel.

The amenities such as shampoos and soaps are extremely high end, much to the delight of the guests.

“Our guests are telling us that they are the best amenities they have seen in any hotel,” he said. “They are very spa like.”

However, one aspect that will never change is its downtown location on the shores of Lake Temiskaming. Half the rooms face the lake and the second storey offers balconies where guests can enjoy their morning coffee or watch some spectacular views of the Lake in the evening.

The inn sits along the two-kilometre long boardwalk that hugs the shoreline where guests can enjoy a leisurely stroll.

Snowmobilers can park their machines at the inn’s doorstep and it is located only a few kilometres off the main A Trail.

The Waterfront Inn’s location also offers a great deal of convenience for its guests. Its on-site restaurant, Rooster’s Bar and Grill, offers casual dining and an extensive menu that will please any palate.

The municipal pool and fitness centre is connected to the inn and guests can use those facilities for a nominal daily fee. The arena is next door, and close by are a Tim Hortons and a liquor store. A short walks brings guests into New Liskeard’s downtown.

The five-month long renovations, which were completed in March, have been well worth the effort. The ground floor was completed first, followed by the second storey, so only half the hotel would have to be closed at one time.

“Our guests are happy, and we are getting a lot of positive comments,” Mackey said. “At the Bikers’ Reunion (in July), we heard it time and time again how much they enjoyed their stay.

“The one nice thing about a smaller hotel like this is that we can provide a friendlier atmosphere and they feel like they are coming home.”
