Through state-of-the-art facilities, Collège Boréal offers quality training to students, in French, in order to meet the needs of the mining community across the province. Students enrolled in Boréal’s civil and mining engineering technician programs benefit from rewarding learning experiences thanks to numerous community partnerships.

These programs have a particularly positive impact on communities where mining plays a role. They also contribute significantly to applied research projects in several sectors, such as heavy equipment repair and maintenance, forestry and the environment.

“Mining is without a doubt one of the most important industries in Northern and Southwestern Ontario. Collège Boréal is committed to training the next generation of mining professionals who will lead this evolving field.”
Daniel Giroux, President of Collège Boréal

Collège Boréal offers two core programs for those who are interested in the mining industry. The Construction Engineering Technician – Civil and Mining program (4 semesters) covers diverse activities relating to the exploitation of mines and the extraction of minerals from them, covering both underground and open-pit mining.

The Construction Engineering Technology – Civil and Mining Specialization (6 semesters) offers opportunities to specialize in underground mining. In state-of-the-art laboratories, students get to apply the concepts and theories learned in class. A field placement in the 6th semester of the program allows the student to acquire actual workplace experience and to truly “dig into” the mining industry!

The mining industry encompasses diverse functions that require many different types of expertise. Boreal offers a wide range of programs that lead directly to positions in the mining field. Whether they graduate from our Mechanical Millwright Technician Program, our Welding Engineering Technician Program or any of our other highly-rated mining-related programs, talented graduates from Boréal have and create opportunities in the mining sector!

Perhaps extraction is not your thing and you’d rather work at minimizing the environmental impacts of mining activities? Learn about land rehabilitation on mining sites in our Forestry programs and discover how partnerships between the forestry and mining industries can improve sustainability and ensure good jobs and a healthy environment for generations to come.
