Local construction company bases core values on traditional Anishinaabe teachings

RAW Group’s strong core values are the foundation for its success

RAW Group, an Anishinaabe majority-owned company, specializes in general construction, electrical contracting, pre-engineered buildings, concrete, and civil work. What makes RAW Group stand apart from the crowd is its strong commitment to an all-encompassing set of core values that are rooted in the Seven Grandfather Teachings of the Anishinaabe.

According to Monica Homer, Chief Administrative Officer and Indigenous Liaison for RAW Group, these teachings are an important guide for all aspects of their business and personal lives. “I really thought that it was important as an Anishinaabe/First Nation company that we incorporate the Seven Grandfather Teachings into our core values because I really think that they speak to who we are as people, as well as the company itself and the people we work with,” she says. “We should all aspire to apply these values in our everyday lives as well.”

Included in the Seven Grandfather Teachings are love, respect, bravery, truth, honesty, humility, and wisdom. When looking at RAW Group’s core values, these teachings are reflected in how they approach client satisfaction, integrity, quality, progress, community, people, and safety.

Successful, Forward-Thinking Projects Rooted in Tradition

Working from these strong core values has helped RAW Group grow into the successful company that it is today. Their portfolio of excellence includes innovative work that requires outside-the-box thinking and strict attention to the smallest details – characteristics that are strengthened by the Seven Grandfather Teachings.

One example of this high-level work is RAW Group’s project at SNOLab, an extremely sensitive underground research facility located in the Vale Creighton Mine. They successfully installed cable trays following their client’s strict caveats that were required to keep the research facility free of dust and particles.

Over the years, RAW Group has also completed various projects for Kirkland and District Hospital.  One of these projects was to supply and install main electrical distribution while the hospital remained in full operation. The team at RAW Group was able to successfully complete this project without losing any power to the main hospital at any point.

RAW Group was also responsible for the design and build of a 250kW solar field for Atikameksheng Anishinabek.

Successful projects like these have opened doors for new and exciting opportunities. RAW Group is now on the approved bidders lists for global mining giants KGHM, Vale, and Glencore.

Caring for Their Community

The team at RAW Group not only strives to produce exceptional work on every project, but they also work hard to take care of their employees and their community. RAW Group offers meaningful employment and long-term training opportunities as well as an extremely safe working environment. They believe in giving back to their community and follow their core values every step of the way.

Though the hardworking team at RAW Group has a lot to be proud of, they never stray from Anishinaabe teachings and always try their best to practice humility.

RAW Group operates within the traditional territory of Atikameksheng Anishinabek as well as the traditional territories of First Nations across Ontario. For more information about RAW Group’s many projects and services, visit them online or call (705) 806-0071.
