Timmins community leaders were on Air Canada Jazz's case after accusations surfaced that the regional air carrier was price-gouging local residents.
Timmins Mayor Jamie Lim along with chamber of commerce president Fred Barabas and Dave McGirr of the Timmins Economic Development Corp. met with Air Canada officials in mid-September to express local frustrations with airfares and sub-standard service.
A published letter from outgoing chamber president Sandra Deem calling for more reasonable airfares sparked the controversy.
Because it is twice as expensive to fly to Toronto from Timmins as from North Bay, the Timmins group asked for the same seat promotions and discounts offered to Sudbury and North Bay.
They did receive a commitment to improve service, costs and scheduling.
