Statistics released by the Timmins Economic Development Corp. (TEDC) indicate the city has experienced a net gain of 362 jobs.

From January to March 2002 there were 33 jobs lost in the city, however, 395 new jobs were created. The figures are based on full-time employment positions.

A Timmins city councillor noted that it is good to see an increase in jobs, even though there was an eight per cent drop in the population.

The TEDC started recording job losses and gains within the city last year in order to get a clearer picture of unemployment trends.

This also allowed for an accurate portrayal of the opportunities available in Timmins. Figures regarding employment losses and gains will be updated monthly and the TEDC will pass the information on to council.
