Timmins is playing host to the 2019 Northern Ontario Tourism Summit Nov. 18-20.

An annual, three-day event, the summit brings together tourism businesses, organizations and suppliers, along with all levels of government, to find solutions to challenges facing the industry.

The event is a partnership between Nature and Outdoor Tourism Ontario and Destination Northern Ontario.

Included on the agenda are training workshops, information sessions, and a tradeshow featuring product and service providers to the tourism industry.

Topics of discussion include tourism product development, digital marketing, succession planning, business retention and expansion, green tourism, and workplace safety and prevention services training.

This year’s guest speaker is Marcus Collins, currently the chief consumer connections officer at Doner Advertising, a full-serve advertising agency based in Southfield, Mich. Throughout his career, he’s worked with well-known brands such as Apple, Nike, Beyoncé, McDonald's, and Anheuser-Busch.

The summit’s opening reception will showcase local food and drink with the support of local businesses Radical Gardens, Toffanello's Fresh Pasta, Dabrowski's Smoked Meats Ltd., Compass Brewing, and Full Beard Brewing, along with Top Shelf Distillers from Perth, Ont.

In addition, Le Bec Sucré will roll maple toffee on snow, and Indigenous culture will be showcased during a presentation including a ceremonial fire, traditional food, and fire dancers.
