A developer's plan to build a new Timmins Wal-Mart off Riverside Drive received the nod from city councillors in June.

A developer's plan to build a new Timmins Wal-Mart off Riverside Drive received the nod from city councillors in June.

The city stands to gain $500,000 annually in taxes from First Pro Shopping Centre's $19-million outlet, which will create 350 to 450 full- and part-time jobs. Construction starts next spring with a grand opening slated for the summer of 2003. The proposed 135,000-square-foot store will sit on 23 acres, with other retailers occupying an additional 42,000 square-feet. The new store will be 9,000 square feet larger than its present space at the Timmins Square Mall.
