Junior mining company Davidson Tisdale Ltd. has plans to revive a former gold mine in South Porcupine, which has been drilled and explored since the early 1900s. In the mid-1990s, some gold was mined out of the Davidson mine, yielding about 0.5 ounces per tonne of rock, but an official with the company estimates only a small portion of the gold was mined. Considering the rising price of gold, and the existence of what is believed by the company to be a lucrative mine site, the company is planning to make applications to operate an open-pit mine on the property. An open-pit mine has the potential to create a number of jobs in the community, a company official says. If the company opts to construct buildings on the site, there could be upwards to 150 construction jobs created, a company official adds.
