Genesis Genomics expands to UK (12/04)

Genesis Genomics is expanding its operation to the United Kingdom. Dr. Bob Thayer, Genesis Genomics president, is currently in the UK making preparations to start a subsidiary of Genesis Genomics.

“We anticipate this will be happening within the next two to three months,” Thayer says.

The Thunder Bay operation will still be headquarters for the company. The United Kingdom conducts a significant amount of skin cancer research and the crossover would be “perfect timing” for the northwestern company, he says. One of the skin cancer specialists resides in the UK and is a major

shareholder in Genesis Genomics, Thayer says.

Growing abroad means growth back home. Thayer anticipates this move will have positive economic impact for the Thunder Bay operation with

additional hiring of highly qualified people. The company has recently hired a bioinformatics math computing science expert this past month.

“We anticipate hiring another full-time bioinformatic specialist in the New Year and by June hiring a third person,” Thayer says. “We are absolutely swamped with information...”
