Officials with the Re-inventing Fort Frances committee are waiting for funding approval from FedNor before going ahead with a feasibility study imperative to landing funding for major projects to enhance tourism and commerce in the area. The committee is looking to transform the area in order to foster tourism and economic growth. Part of the plan includes the conversion of the old Fort Frances High School into a market area with a park and amphitheatre, developing a fort-like gateway at the border and diverting traffic flow to promote local businesses. The committee applied for $100,000 from FedNor, while the Town of Fort Frances pledged $25,000 towards the study and the remaining funds are expected to come from private-sector sources.
