University researchers garner support through innovation fund (3/02)

Six Laurentian University researchers were awarded research funding from the Ontario Innovation Trust (OIT) in late February.

Six Laurentian University researchers were awarded research funding from the Ontario Innovation Trust (OIT) in late February. The funding provides infrastructure support to newly recruited academic staff and assists universities in attracting top-flight faculty members for research initiatives. Dr. Greg Baiden received $125,000 from OIT for his telemining research lab. Biology professor Dr. Madhur Anand was awarded $188,0000 for her ecological modelling lab. Dr. Graeme Spiers, professor of chemistry and biochemistry and earth sciences, received $85,000 for an analytical facility for the environmental sciences. Dr. Bruno Lafrance, professor of earth sciences, received $60,000 to study the applications of electron back-scattered diffraction and orientation contrast imaging in geology. Dr. François Caron, professor of chemistry and biochemistry, received $55,000 to establish an environmental and radiological analysis facility. Dr. Abdel Omri, professor of chemistry and biochemistry, was awarded $58,703 to establish a novel drug and vaccine delivery systems facility.
