Industry Canada committed more than $1.1 million to Sudbury's Laurentian University to support indirect costs associated with federally sponsored research. As part of Canada's Innovation Strategy, the December 2001 federal budget item is geared to respond to the efforts of small universities to become more research oriented. The money will defray costs of research activities, maintenance expenses, archiving research information, technology transfer and recruitment of leading researchers.
