The development of Dynamic Earth as a major tourist attraction promoting Sudbury's rich mining heritage and universal geoscience themes received a major boost in mid-February with the announcement of a $2-million grant from Cultural Spaces Canada. The grant will enable Science North to "enrich Phase 1 of the project by investing more in the Dynamic Earth building, exhibits and surrounding landscape," says Jim Marchbank, Science North chief executive officer. "We're now closer to our ultimate big attraction goal, as set out in our original proposal.

Phase 1 of Dynamic Earth is slated to open spring 2003 and attract more than 100,000 visitors during its first year of operation.
