Sunwire and Northern Voice & Data have completed the business and operations merger of the two Sudbury-based telecommunications firms.

Sunwire acquired Northern Voice & Data in 2019, but the two firms have continued to operate as separate entities.

Now that the merger is completed, the company will drop the Northern Voice & Data name, moving forward as simply Sunwire.

“This strategic move unifies two complementary organizations under one brand in order to better create a platform for growth, delivering significant benefits to employees and customers,” Derrick Chartrand, Sunwire’s director of communications, said in an April 3 news release.

The company said all Northern Voice & Data staff will retain their jobs, bringing Sunwire’s total number of employees to 50.

With the merger, Sunwire said, the company is aiming to become “the leading and most reliable single-solution provider for residential and business telecommunication services.”

“We are thrilled to be part of the Sunwire team as we can now offer our clients a wider range of communication and technology solutions,” said Ed Donaldson, director of information technology, in the release.

“Our deep and extensive industry experience allows us to provide clients with sophisticated and customizable solutions that are simple to use, attributes that set us apart from other telecom and IT firms.”

Sunwire offers internet, phone and related services to business and residential customers across Ontario.
