Three titles from Sudbury-based publishing house Latitude 46 have been shortlisted for the Northern Lit Award.

The titles include The Dependent: A Memoir of Marriage and the Military by Danielle Daniel, Somewhere Picking Dandelions by Diana Douglas, and Rule of Seconds by Shawna Diane Partridge.

“This recognition validates the goals we set forth for Latitude 46: to support and promote authors whose stories speak to the experience and culture of the region,” said company co-founder Laura Stradiotto in a release.

Heather Campbell, company co-founder, added: “We are extremely proud of all our authors and the hard work they put in to craft these narratives. Their stories, both fiction and non-fiction, are an essential part of our regional and Canadian heritage.”

The Northern Lit Awards recognize the outstanding contribution Northern Ontario authors make to Northern culture. The program is jointly sponsored by Ontario Library Service-North and Northern Ontario Libraries.

Stradiotto and Campbell, two Sudbury journalists, launched Latitude 46 Publishing in 2015 in an effort to give authors a voice for their work.

It filled a gap since Your Scrivener Press, which had published local authors for more than 20 years, was dismantled that same year after the retirement of its founder, Laurence Steven, a former Laurentian University professor.

Winners of the Northern Lit Award will be announced in September during the Ontario Library Service-North Annual Conference in Sudbury.
