A new online portal is aiming to help job seekers in the Sudbury and Manitoulin Districts find employment in their area.

Jobs in Sudbury-Manitoulin gathers postings from close to 25 job-posting sites and includes a number of job listings from some of the largest employers and others in the Sudbury and Manitoulin area.

The portal can be found on the website for Workforce Planning for Sudbury & Manitoulin.

“The Jobs in Sudbury-Manitoulin portal is a first of its kind for our area,” said Reggie Caverson, executive director for Workforce Planning for Sudbury & Manitoulin, in a June 1 news release.

“Data from the portal already shows that there were close to 3,000 job postings in Greater Sudbury and the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin in April and close to 1,000 companies who posted a job vacancy.”

Caverson said the organization launched the portal as a direct response to the COVID pandemic, which is "changing the world of work.”

The portal is designed to help those who, over the course of the last year, have lost their jobs, or have decided to change direction and shift their priorities.

By collecting job postings in one place, the goal is to help job seekers save time and alleviate the frustration that can be associated with combing multiple job sites daily for leads.

Through Jobs in Sudbury-Manitoulin, users can search by industry, occupation, skill level, duration, location, most current posting, and other key parameters.

The site is updated daily, and sometimes hourly, and each posted job links back to the original website, making it easier to apply, Caverson added.

Workforce Planning for Sudbury-Manitoulin is one of 26 workforce planning boards across the province funded by Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development. More than three-quarters of these workforce planning boards have a similar online job portal for their area.
