Nominations are now open for the 2021 Northern Ontario Business Awards

Largest celebration of its kind returns for 35th year
The Northern Ontario Business Awards program returns in 2021 for its 35th year.

Village Media is proud to announce the Northern Ontario Business Awards (NOBA), presented by Northern Credit Union, will be returning for its 35th year of celebrating the extraordinary Northern entrepreneurs, companies and business leaders making meaningful contributions to our region.

Do you know a person or business whose exemplary work deserves to be acknowledged?

Nominations are now open and can be submitted online at until Aug. 31, 2021.

Submissions will be vetted by a panel of judges comprised of business leaders from across Northern Ontario, and award recipients will be announced this fall.

Village Media CEO Jeff Elgie is a past NOBA recipient, named Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2009.

“As a previous NOBA winner, we understand the importance of NOBA to Northerners, and we’re delighted to be able to continue its mission of honouring business excellence in the North,” he said.

“Since the awards program was launched in 1986, we have celebrated more than 300 winners from across the region who are making extraordinary contributions to Northern Ontario and its economy,” said Abbas Homayed, director of community relations at Village Media.

“Although the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic prevents us from gathering in person this year, we look forward to growing that list.”

Winners will be recognized for their outstanding achievements in the following categories:

• Company of the Year (1-15 Employees)

• Company of the Year (16-50 Employees)

• Company of the Year (51+ Employees)

• Entrepreneur of the Year

• Young Entrepreneur of the Year

• Innovation Award

• First Nations Business Award of Excellence

• Entrepreneurial Community of the Year

• Export Award

• Judges' Choice Award

Award winners will be featured in profiles and videos, which will be published on and Village Media’s additional Northern Ontario websites, including, SooToday, TimminsToday, BayToday and ElliotLakeToday.
