Networking high on BDC's agenda

As a small business owner it is hard to imagine how going to another event that is asking $50 for a ticket can help enhance the business’ future.

As a small business owner it is hard to imagine how going to another event that is asking $50 for a ticket can help enhance the business’ future.

And yet it is hard to imagine how one can miss the ninth annual Bridges to Better Business 2008, says Gillian Taillefer, business information and communications officer for the Sudbury Regional Business Centre.

Entitled The Biggest Small Business Networking Event of the North, the event’s aim is to gather 150 entrepreneurs for the October 22 all-day event.

There are numerous success stories in Greater Sudbury and some in the making. Taillefer intends to target these local business leaders to become part of the meet, greet and learn sessions. This will help new business owners understand they are not alone in the climb to success and provide them with potential contacts towards their dream.

Taillefer also wants to use the Pay it Forward philosophy by asking for donations from veterans who may be willing to buy another ticket for an entrepreneur who is unable to meet the financial ticket obligation. Taillefer says entrepreneurs do not necessarily have to know who sponsored their ticket rather, the organization will divvy them out to those who want to attend.

Each participant will be able to register for three of the six breakout sessions. Lunch will be served family style, so food will be put on the tables to allow for more networking opportunities.

This event is only part of the larger celebration that is happening Canada-wide to help and hail new business leaders. Every year for the past 29 years BDC has organized small business week (Oct. 19 -25) and this year’s theme is A World Without Boundaries.

Sudbury’s local theme fits nicely into the larger picture as it will be focused on networking and partnerships.

It will take place at the Radisson Hotel starting at 11 a.m. until 4:45 p.m.
