Their annual Mining Health and Safety Conference had to be cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Workplace Safety North (WSN) said it will offer a virtual conference experience online instead.

The conference was originally scheduled to take place in Sudbury April 21-23, but WSN said it will instead stream "classic" keynote presentations from past conferences on those dates.

“The health and safety of staff and participants always comes first,” WSN said in an April 6 news release.

“Due to COVID-19, WSN is providing a virtual online experience this year and appreciates your support and understanding.”

The presentations will be complemented by real-time commentary from co-hosts Mike Parent and Angele Poitras, and special guest Roy Slack, director of Cementation Americas and president of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM).

Presenters will include:

• Big Daddy Tazz, a comedian, motivational speaker and mental health advocate;
• Jim Lees, an intergenerational wellness specialist; and
• Corrie Pitzer, a behavioural and strategic specialist.

WSN said it plans to return to its traditional in-person format April 13-15, 2021 in Sudbury.
