The creation of a new Sault Ste. Marie technology and call centre received an added $3 million boost from the province in late January. The city wants to build a facility next door to their joint partner, EDS Canada, operators of a new roadside assistance call centre. Their proposed 10,000-square-foot innovation centre would attract and spur information technology-related businesses to set up shop. Combined with $402,500 contributed from FedNor, the city hopes to begin construction this spring at the site of the soon-to-be demolished Sault jail. The funding is earmarked for the construction and communications infrastructure.
