Industry stakeholders will discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the resource and manufacturing supply chain during a July 26 panel discussion hosted by the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce.

“Resources are key to Canada’s prosperity today and tomorrow. As part of the resource and manufacturing supply chain, whether advanced manufacturers, technology innovators, environmental scientists, or other service and engineering providers, their impact is felt in every community across Canada,” said chamber president Don Mitchell in a July 12 news release.

“The connection between the resource-energy-manufacturing supply chain is a significant economic driver and job creator of the future.”

The event will include Sault Ste. Marie investment updates from Tenaris Algoma Tubes and Noront Resources as well as a panel discussion with national industry association leaders who will discuss Canada’s resource sectors in the context of national and global contributions.

Speakers will include:

  • Perrin Beatty, president and CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, who will offer remarks via video;
  • Catherine Cobden, president and CEO of the Canadian Steel Producers Association;
  • Gary Mar, president and CEO of Petroleum Services Association of Canada;
  • Mathew Wilson, vice-president of policy of Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters;
  • Guillermo Moreno, president of Tenaris Canada; and
  • Stephen Flewelling, vice-president of development with Noront Resources.

“The natural resource sector development is a significant and symbolic attribute of Sault Ste. Marie and many key industry sectors continue to foster economic growth and diversification for our community,” said Rory Ring, CEO of the Sault chamber.

“In 2015, Sault Ste. Marie was recognized by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce as a ‘Resource City.’ The growth of the natural resource sector means more jobs, government revenue and investment in local communities like Sault Ste. Marie.”

Registration for the event is now open.
