McDougall Energy has added to its holdings with the acquisition of two additional fuel distributors.

The first, Dowler-Karn Ltd., is headquartered in St. Thomas, Ont., and is a family-owned fuels, propane, and lubricants distributor, supplying products to customers across Ontario. They are pioneers in propane distribution and storage facility construction.

With more than 78 years in business, Dowler-Karn services more than 18,000 residential, agricultural, commercial, and industrial customers from eight fuel, propane, and lubricant plants and nine 24-hour fuel access centres located across southern Ontario.

McDougall said in an Oct. 29 announcement that the deal is set to close in the first quarter of 2022.

Its second acquisition is Dodsley Fuels Ltd., based in Tillsonburg.

Established in 1954, Dodsley Propane is a family-owned and operated business that is well-known in the community for providing reliable and safe propane products, services, and deliveries to residential customers, commercial businesses, and agricultural clients in Oxford County and the surrounding area.

The company will continue under the Dodsley name and become a division of McDougall Energy.

That transaction was completed on Oct. 29.

Established by Allan McDougall in 1949, Sault Ste. Marie-based McDougall Energy is now in its third generation of family ownership and is one of the largest family-owned fuel distributors in Canada.

The company has spent more than a decade on Deloitte's list of Canada's Best Managed Companies, which sets a national standard for the overall business performance of ventures earning annual revenue of $25 million and over.
