Sault tire recycler reaches operations milestone

Tire-recycling company Ellsin Environmental has reached a milestone at the operation of its test plant in Sault Ste. Marie, operating consecutively for four days.

In a news release, Ellsin’s parent company, Environmental Waste International (EWS), said it had successfully completed a continuous four-day (100-hour) run of its TR-900 waste tire-recycling facility. That’s double the previous record announced in June.

The four-day run is another milestone in the company's progress toward continuous 24/7 operation of its waste tire-recycling facility in Sault Ste. Marie. The run also confirms the technical improvements which will be in place for EWS's first commercial plant.

"EWS's years of development are about to come to fruition,” said Daniel Kaute, president and CEO. “Sale and construction of a commercial facility is the next step. We are virtually there."

Ellsin set up a pilot plant in the city in 2011, and has been testing its patented reverse polymerization technique for the last three years. The process breaks down used tires into its three basic elements — carbon black, oil and steel — which can then be sold to various markets.
