Sault gets innovative with FedNor funds

The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre pocketed $466,500 from FedNor for three information technology and renewable energy initiatives.

The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre pocketed $466,500 from FedNor for three information technology and renewable energy initiatives.

One cheque of $295,000 is earmarked for the centre to hire a coordinator to identify local gaps in ICT (information and communications technology) infrastructure and to promote broadband applications for small business.

A second installment of $140,000 is for a regional smart energy strategy, specifically to develop a smart micro-grid in the community and come with a bio-oils strategy to support the construction of a bio-energy facility.

With $31,500, a youth intern will hired to do research in developing the strategy.
