Sault EDC wins provincial economic development award

Organization recognized for establishing Millworks Centre for Entrepreneurship

The Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corp. (EDC) has been recognized by a provincial economic development body.

The Economic Development Council of Ontario awarded the Sault EDC with the 2017 Collaboration and Partnership Award in the Public-Private Partnership Category. The recognition came for the Millworks Centre for Entrepreneurship, a small-business incubation space set up on the former St. Marys Paper mill site.

“It’s great to see our community recognized on the provincial stage,” said Dan Hollingsworth, the EDC’s executive director of business development, in a news release.

“The Millworks Centre for Entrepreneurship is one of our priority projects, and it’s helping to support innovative small businesses here in Sault Ste. Marie. I thank our funding partners at all levels of government for making this project possible.”

Launched, in 2016, Millworks has hosted a number of local businesses, including  BonZa Global, NorthStar Consulting, Jeronamo Solutions, Possibilities Group, MBR Services, On Focus Now, UMG Media, B&E Automotive Technologies, and Diverse Computing.

The Economic Development Council of Ontario works to advance economic development as a profession while supporting municipalities in fostering economic prosperity in the province.
