The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce is offering free memberships to Sault businesses and organizations during the month of May.

Basic complimentary memberships are open through to May 31 to those that aren’t currently members.

Chamber CEO Rory Ring said the goal is to help businesses stay connected during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“There is a great deal of information about COVID-19 that we all have to digest on a personal level, but if you are a business person, you also have to ensure that you are staying up to date on the various programs in place for business and the legislation that you are required to adhere to for your business and your employees,” Ring said in an April 28 news release.

“And on top of that, you are looking for ways to keep your customers and clients informed about your business’ status.”

Benefits to a Chamber membership include regular updates on municipal, provincial and federal news, and access to free Chamber webinars.

The Chamber said it has additionally been advocating for concerns from local business members at the provincial and federal levels through its affiliations with the Ontario and Canadian Chambers of Commerce.

“The Chamber hopes that businesses that take advantage of the complimentary basic membership during COVID-19 will benefit from both the information sharing and the additional marketing opportunities that Chamber membership offers,” Ring said.

“We also hope that non-member businesses will assist us by adding their voice to the advocacy that the Chamber network is doing on behalf of all local, Ontario and Canadian businesses.”

The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce has been in operation since 1889.
