The Sault Ste. Marie Airport is reporting increased capital investments and steady passenger traffic over the last year.

Following an Oct. 21 strategic planning session, the Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corp. issued a statement with some notable achievements from the last year of operation; in particular, the expansion of JD Aero and the relocation of Humphrey Aircraft Services to the airport.

In the 12 months up to Sept. 30, 2017, the airport recorded 211,711 passengers.

In addition, more than $1 million in capital investments were put into safety and security, and general upgrades at the airport.

This brings the SSMADC investment into capital upgrades at the Sault Ste. Marie Airport, since taking ownership on March 28, 1998, to a total of over $39.5 million.

The strategic planning session was held to explore ways to further enhance the airport’s ability to meet its challenges.
