The Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation has plenty of feel about.

During the corporation’s annual strategy session held Oct. 22, the corporation’s board of directors and management staff reflected on the past year’s string of successes.

In an Oct. 27 news release, the corporation pointed to a record level of 208,620 passengers who transited through the terminal this year as of the end of September, a 5.3 per cent increase from the previous year.

Other successes identified were the attraction of a new licensed restaurant operator, Santini’s On the Fly, and securing government and city funding for a $7-million expansion of the JD Aero hangar facility, which will see a new aviation fuel supplier and help grow the aircraft refurbisher to 140 employees.

The corporation said more than $1.5 million went into safety, security and general facility upgrades since last year’s strategy session.

Overall, since the airport development corporation took over the facility in March 1998, capital upgrades total more than $38.5 million.

The strategy session involved crafting a new mission and vision statement for the corporation, and covering what opportunities for targeted investment exist over the next five years.
