Sault Ste. Marie MP Carmen Provenzano is helping shape a community proposal to restore locally produced TV programming to the city. A group of former MCTV employees known as the Algoma Broadcast Group are working to develop a locally produced television company. They intend to submit their proposal to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. The group wants 5.5 hours of locally produced programming daily, including a two-hour morning show and half-hour newscasts in the early and late evenings, among other show ideas. The CRTC is considering launching a community-based licence to fill voids in areas where there is no local content. Applications for proposal to the CRTC will be available in June.
