McDougall Energy retains spot on best managed list

For the third year in a row, McDougall Energy has been named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies.

This prestigious national award is sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC, National Post, Queen’s School of Business and MacKay CEO Forums. The Sault-based company was a winner of Canada’s Best Managed Companies program in 2011 and requalified to maintain its status as a Best Managed Company in 2012 and 2013.

The 69-year-old energy company has been involved in 44 acquisitions since inception. Now in its third generation of family ownership, McDougall Energy has grown to become one of the largest integrated distributors of Esso and Mobil products in Canada. The business serves fuel and lubricant customers throughout Ontario and regions in British Columbia. Its Northern Ontario locations include Sudbury, North Bay, Little Current, Thessalon, Chapleau, Timmins and Red Lake.

Darren McDougall, president of McDougall Energy was a sentimental when asked about the award.

“To be named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies three years in a row is a pretty special achievement for our company,” he said in a news release. “An award like this starts with great people and my family and I are thankful to everyone who played a part in our success; our loyal customers, dedicated employees and our critical partners.”

Established in 1993, the Canada’s Best Managed Companies is a national awards program recognizing Canadian companies that have implemented world-class business practices and created value in innovative ways. Applications are reviewed by an independent judging panel that evaluates how companies address various business challenges.

Winners will be honoured at a gala in Toronto in April.
