McDougall Energy Inc. is expanding its southern Ontario holdings with the acquisition of a fuel and lubricant business in Owen Sound previously owned by Pepco Corp.

Headquartered in Sault Ste. Marie, McDougall Energy is a marketer and distributor of heating oil, propane, gasoline, diesel fuel and commercial lubricants, as well as an EssoTM retailer. The company is currently in its third generation of family ownership.

With the acquisition, McDougall will take on the home heat, commercial fuels, cardlock and lubricant customers previously belonging to Pepco, the company noted in a release. This deal also brings with it a full operational hub inclusive of an onsite bulk storage facility and five local employees. The acquisition is effective Nov. 29.

“This deal with the Pepin family offers a natural fit for us as we bring our customers a strong localized approach in Owen Sound and surrounding areas. We feel that this transition is a step forward in bringing the McDougall Energy Esso-Branded and Mobil Lubricant offering to the southern Ontario market,” McDougall president Darren McDougall said in the release.

“We will be working closely with our new team members in ensuring our customers experience a smooth transition during this time. Additionally, we also want to send out our sincerest welcome to our new Owen Sound vendors and customers.”

McDougall Energy is in its 72nd year of business as a privately owned marketer and distributor of gasoline, diesel, lubricants, heating oil and propane. As one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for six years in a row, McDougall Energy has experienced continued growth in the Southern Ontario market following a series of acquisitions and organic growth.
