Event honours North’s top exporters (05/04)

A Sudbury-based company specializing in voice and data underground communications systems was among several northern regional award winners announced at the 7th annual Ontario Global Traders Awards on April 15 in Sault Ste. Marie.

A Sudbury-based company specializing in voice and data underground communications systems was among several northern regional award winners announced at the 7th annual Ontario Global Traders Awards on April 15 in Sault Ste. Marie.

Varis-Smart Underground Communications received the Regional Award in Innovation, while Driving Force Internet Group received the Award of Merit

in Innovation and Souris River Canoes received an Honourable Mention.

Tom Palangio, president of TOPEX Inc., won the Regional Award for Leadership. Palangio has introduced technology to the global mining industry through distributors in 19 countries, and has been instrumental in bringing resource people together to assist other company members of the Blue Sky Mining Cluster develop their own exporting program.

Axiom (Colquhoun Audio Laboratories Ltd.) received the Regional Award for Market Expansion. Sault-based Teleflex Advanced Thermodynamics received an Award of Merit, while Granite Tops Inc. of Thunder Bay and Truck Wash Technologies of Sault Ste. Marie both received an Honourable Mention.

Zankhana Ughadpaga, a former Laurentian University student who now resides in the Sault, won a Student Achievement Award of Merit. Stephanie Pearce, a former student of Algoma University College, received the Student Achievement Award Honourable Mention.
