The cellular phone service gap in the Superior East region is one step closer to being filled. A feasibility study to build a network that would provide cellular service from White River to Wawa to Sault Ste. Marie, and from Wawa to Chapleau to Timmins has revealed it would cost about $10.3 million to build the network.

The Superior East Community Development Corp. is in the process of preparing funding submissions to FedNor and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. to build the network. The CDC is requesting half of total network amount from FedNor and NOHFC, with the remaining half of the funding expected to come from a private-sector cellular service provider.
