The Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and Ontario Ministry of International Trade are hosting a free two-day exporting workshop, Sept. 19-20.

The Accelerate to International Markets program is targeted at companies that are new to exporting or are considering exporting in the future.

The 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. event takes place at Quattro Hotel & Conference Centre, and includes breakfast and lunch.

The workshop will cover export readiness, market research, market entry strategies, international trade financing tools, transportation, and logistics, using distributors and agents, getting results from trade shows, and exporting through e-commerce.

Advisors from RBC Royal Bank, the Ontario government, and other organizations will make presentations. The advisors will work one-on-one with attendees to help them develop an exporting plan.

“Exporting continues to represent an opportunity for growth for many local businesses,” said the Sault EDC’s Nevin Buconjic, manager of trade, investment and community marketing.

“We’re working to provide companies with the tools and guidance needed to be ready for exporting to the U.S. and other global markets. This is another great opportunity to get hands-on training and assistance.”

The EDC is also hosting a Singapore-based market expert from the Ontario Ministry of International Trade on Sept. 26-27.

The forum is focused on doing business in Southeast Asia, with a concentration on the aerospace, cleantech and information communications technology sectors.

The Sept. 27 open session is between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. A private meeting with a visiting trade specialist can be scheduled through Buconjic at n.buconjic@ssmedc.ca or 705-759-5928.
