The northeastern Ontario winners of the 2015 Influential Women Awards were named on Monday night in Sault Ste. Marie.

The next phase of the redevelopment of the Canadian plaza at the International Bridge in Sault Ste. Marie will go ahead in June. In a news release, the Federal Bridge Corporation Ltd.

The Goulais Bay Wind Farm, an 11-turbine, 25-megawatt project located north of Sault Ste. Marie, has now been commissioned. The wind farm was developed by Capstone Infrastructure Corp.

Soo Mill & Lumber Company Ltd. – one of Sault Ste. Marie’s oldest and most successful locally owned businesses – is celebrating its 100th anniversary by donating $100,000 to innovative community projects that improve the lives of others.

More than 150 jobs will be up for grabs in Sault Ste. Marie when Agero Inc. conducts a hiring blitz in 2015. In a news release, the company said it requires more people because of increasing demand for its roadside assistance services.

The Rural Agri-Innovation Network in Sault Ste. Marie will host a networking event geared towards stakeholders in the food and agriculture industry.

Northeastern Ontario’s agriculture industry is the beneficiary of some provincial funding. The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) is investing $175,000 in three projects in the Algoma region.

Last fall, when Amit Sofer presented his blueprints for Riverwalk Condominiums along Sault Ste. Marie’s waterfront, he was warned he’d have a difficult time selling housing units based on plans alone.
