Women leaders recognized during Influential Women of Northern Ontario Awards

Six leaders from northwestern Ontario acknowledged at 21st annual event

Six women leaders from across northwestern Ontario were recognized during the 2018 Influential Women of Northern Ontario Awards luncheon on May 31 at the Victoria Inn Hotel and Conference Centre in Thunder Bay.

The annual event – now in its 21st year – profiles and honours women in Northern Ontario who have made a difference in their communities, generating economic wealth, creating jobs and furthering growth.

Congratulations to all of this year’s winners:

Executive of the Year: Colleen Kjellman, executive director, Brass Bell Family Resource Centre (Nipigon)

Entrepreneur of the Year: Anne Marie Calonego, owner, Prime Gelato (Thunder Bay)

Young Entrepreneur of the Year: Kaija Saarinen, owner, Green and Gone Pest Solutions (Keewatin)

Aboriginal Leadership: Rosie Mosquito, executive director, Oshki-Pimache-O-Win Education & Training Institute (Thunder Bay)

Influential Community Trailblazer: Donna Gilhooly (Thunder Bay)

Tradeswoman of the Year: Susan Temple, utility services representative, Union Gas (Murillo)

A luncheon was earlier held on Monday, May 28 to honour six winners from northeastern Ontario, in addition to the Young Influential Woman Essay Scholarship winner. The event was held at the Caruso Club in Sudbury.
