Sudbury man identified as victim of Marathon-area industrial accident

Worker was pinned by a steel bridge after it shifted.

A man from the Sudbury area has been identified as the victim of an Aug. 14 fatal workplace accident near Marathon.

The 61-year-old was working for Bélanger Construction of Chelmsford.

The Ministry of Labour was told he was pinned by a temporary steel bridge which shifted as it was being installed over Angler Creek on Highway17 just west of Marathon.

A ministry inspector was sent to the scene to investigate.

The ministry has issued one order against the company; however, they would not provide any details on what that order entails.

A spokesperson at Bélanger's head office declined Thursday to comment on the incident.
