Northeastern Ontario innovation mill NORCAT recently acquired Thunder Bay-based Workplace Training and Safety First's training and development programs. CEO Don Duval said this further strengthens NORCAT's commitment to providing safety training to workers in the resource sectors.

NORCAT Innovation Mill in Sudbury has lengthened its reach into Northwestern Ontario with the acquisition of Workplace Training and Safety First.

Based out of Thunder Bay, Workplace Training and Safety First offers training and development services in Northwestern Ontario.

A news release from NORCAT stated this will increase NORCAT's market share, expand and enhance new and existing customer relationships, and further its overall impact in the global skilled labour training marketplace.

Don Duval, NORCAT CEO, said Workplace Training and Safety First’s programs, services, and resources in the mining, construction, and forestry sectors will complement and enhance NORCAT’s existing suite of products and services.

“We are very excited at this opportunity to strengthen NORCAT and look forward to integrating the exceptional team at Workplace Training and Safety First,” he said. “With this acquisition, coupled with our continued investment and deployment of leading-edge training and development technologies, we are well-positioned to continue to build our global brand in the skilled labour training and development market.”

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Over the past five years, NORCAT has seen significant growth in their priority sectors of mining, construction, forestry, and oil / gas – both in domestic and international markets.

NORCAT’s flagship programs including their proprietary supervisor training, train-the-trainer, and equipment simulation training programs, continue to serve as the cornerstone of the business.

In addition, on-going strategic investments in NORCAT’s Underground Centre, the world’s only underground operating mine dedicated to mine skills training and technology development, testing, and showcasing, continue to validate their leading position in the global mining training and development market.
