Killarney Mountain Lodge will be offering seaplane tours as part of its tourism offerings this June.

The tourist facility is situated on the shores of Georgian Bay in Lake Huron, about 75 minutes south of Sudbury in the Town of Killarney.

The lodge said it has hired Lake Country Airways for a trial program to take visitors on tours of several nearby points of interest, including Baie Fine and the Birch Islands.

“Initially we would like to have up to 12 flights over the June 20-21 weekend,” said Kelly McAree, the lodge’s general manager, in a March 16 news release.

“Flights would have a duration of about 20 minutes with each flight accommodating up to five passengers for a fee of $750 in total.

A pilot will be available for tours between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both June 20 and 21, and there is some flexibility if visitors wish to take evening tours.

Killarney Mountain Lodge was built in the 1950s by the Detroit company Fruehauf Trailer Corp. as a private retreat for employees and customers.

It was purchased in 1962 by Maury and Annabelle East, who operated the lodge until retiring in 2015.

Since then, the lodge has been owned and operated by Holden Rhodes, who has undertaken extensive renovations to the facility.
