A representative from Timmins will chair the board of directors for Attractions Ontario, the province’s leading tourism body, for the 2018-2019 season.

Guy Lamarche, who serves as director of manager of tourism, events and communications for the City of Timmins, began in his new role on May 8.

“I am honoured to be promoted to the position of chair and I accept the challenge of leading such a reputable pan-Ontario organization,” Lamarche said in a news release. “I said honoured where I really meant privileged, if you consider the list of industry colleagues who have chaired Attractions Ontario before me.

“I also look forward to the work ahead as we develop a new three-year strategic plan,” he added. “The plan will guide our efforts as we continue to work hard for our many attraction members while increasing visitations and overall tourism receipts.”

There will be additional representation from Northern Ontario on the board: David MacLachlan of Tourism Northern Ontario and Paul Pepe of Tourism Thunder Bay have also joined the executive.

“Attractions are an important sector in driving tourism receipts not only for the North but all of Ontario. I am really pleased to join the Board and look forward to working with everyone at Attractions Ontario to grow this sector across the Province,” said David MacLachlan, executive director for Tourism Northern Ontario.

Attractions Ontario describes itself as the authority on attractions and trip motivators in Ontario, the voice of the industry and the source for consumers to discover Ontario’s destination experiences.
