Opposition Leader Andrea Horwath has named the Northern NDP MPPs who are filling the key critic roles at Queen’s Park.

The house leader is Gilles Bisson of Timmins.

Guy Bourgouin of Mushkegowuk-James Bay is handling francophone affairs and training.

Nickel Belt’s France Gélinas is chief party whip and will monitor health care.

Sudbury’s Jamie West is on labour.

Sol Mamakwa of Kiiwetinoong is on the Indigenous relations and reconciliation file.

Algoma-Manitoulin’s Michael Mantha is the northern development and mines critic.

Judith Monteith-Farrell from Thunder Bay-Atikokan will oversee natural resource and forestry.

John Vanthof of Timiskaming-Cochrane is deputy leader and is the critic for agriculture and food, rural development.

“Our strong team of Northern New Democrats will make this government accountable to families in Northern Ontario. The NDP has a long history of fighting for Northern Ontario and the public services and jobs that families in northern communities depend on,” Horwath said in an Aug. 23 statement.

“Having a northern deputy leader like John Vanthof who is an experienced MPP will ensure that New Democrats will connect with more people in northern and rural communities. Together with our Northern team of NDP MPPs, we will continue to fight for northern health care, education and job creation.”
