North Bay has been selected to host the annual Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) conference in 2022.
The city was announced as next year's host community following the conclusion of the 2021 conference, a one-day event held virtually on May 18.
Next year's gathering will be held May 9-11, and is expected to return to an in-person format.
FONOM, which represents 110 municipalities from across northeastern Ontario, works to better municipal government in Northern Ontario and improve legislation respecting local government in the North.
Under the theme “Go North,” more than 20 delegations presented at this year's event, including representatives from the federal government, Telesat, Starlink and the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission.
Mayor Georges Bilodeau, of the Municipality of Huron Shores, was presented with FONOM's Executive Award for his exemplary work on advancing broadband expansion in the North.
The day's presentations are available for viewing on the FONOM YouTube Channel.
