North Bay coffee roastery expands to Parry Sound

Twiggs Coffee Roasters opens sixth location in chain

A North Bay-conceived coffee roastery is once again expanding its Northern Ontario footprint.

After months of renovations – and delays because of the COVID-19 pandemic – Twiggs Coffee Roasters opened its newest location in Parry Sound on June 5.

"We are so excited to announce that our beautiful new Parry Sound location will be opening Friday, June 5 bright and early," Twiggs said on a social media post.

"Our doors are finally open for takeout orders or you can drive-thru and indulge in everything Twiggs."

Located just off Highway 400 about halfway between Sudbury and Barrie, the shop is situated in a bustling retail area popularized by drivers looking for a rest stop while travelling between Toronto and Northern Ontario.

This marks the sixth location for the chain; there are additionally three locations in North Bay, one in Sturgeon Falls, and one in Sudbury.

The evolution of this small, beloved coffee chain is a Northern Ontario success story.

Founder Jennifer Twigg first conceived of the idea of a coffeehouse with on-site roasting in 1995 after relocating to North Bay from Powerll, River, B.C. where fresh-roasted coffee was a growing and popular trend.

Over the years, Twiggs has gained a loyal following thanks to its use of organic, fair-trade beans and its menu of healthful, freshly made food. The chain also offers catering services.

The company and Twigg’s entrepreneurship have been recognized with a number of awards over the years, including Entrepreneur of the Year from Northern Ontario Business in 2019, Service Excellence Award from the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce in 2019, and New Business of the Year from the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce in 2010.
