Noble Mineral Exploration is undertaking preparatory work on its Timmins-area gold project in anticipation of a future drilling program.

Project 81 is located north of Timmins and comprises 70,000 hectares adjacent to Glencore’s Kidd Creek Mine.

In a Jan. 11 news release, the company said it’s been working on a number of initiatives to further plans for the property.

Noble has contracted Gedex Earth Inc. to conduct a high-definition gravity gradiometer survey (HD-AGGTM), a patented technology that helps detect subsurface mineral deposits, on 10,000 line kilometres on the property.

The company said it’s also comparing the results of 2012 and 2017 BECI airborne electromagnetic surveys with historical drill holes dating back to the 1960s to pinpoint drill-ready targets included in the project.

ORIX Geoscience has completed reports on Carnegie and Crawford Townships within Project 81, which identify a number of high-priority drill targets, and ORIX will continue to compile data for the project, which Noble plans to use to seek additional joint venture partners.

Noble said a contract has been struck for a 3,000-metre drill program on the Lucas Gold Target. The goal is to confirm historical drilling results dating to the 1960s and 1980s by Canico, McIntyre Porcupine Mines Ltd., and Abitibi Price Resources. The company did not give a timeline for the work.

Project 81 is Noble Mineral Exploration’s flagship project. Although the property has seen very little mineral exploration over the last 50 years, historical drill results have indicated gold, copper, lead-zinc, silver and nickel showings.

The company also has shareholdings in MacDonald Mines Exploration and an interest in the Wawa-Holdsworth gold exploration property in Wawa.
