Ricus Grimbeek, former Vale Chief Operation Officer has been named the new president and CEO of Trevali Mining Corporation.

Less than two months after stepping down as one of the top executives for Vale, Ricus Grimbeek has been appointed president and CEO of another mining company.

The former chief operating officer for Canada, the U.K., and Asian Refineries is now the head of Trevali Mining Corporation, a zinc-focused base metals company.

“Ricus brings extensive global experience to Trevali, both as a corporate executive and as a mine operator, and has a proven track record of operating safe and efficient businesses with a focus on asset optimization and strong cost performance,” stated Jessica McDonald, chair of the board, in a news release.

She added Grimbeek combined extensive knowledge and mining experience with a progressive approach to mining that places a high priority on safety, sustainability and responsibility.

Grimbeek had joined Vale's Sudbury operations May 16, 2018 and stepped down Feb. 25 of this year.

Trevali operates four mines globally: the wholly-owned Santander mine in Peru, the wholly-owned Caribou mine in the Bathurst Mining Camp of northern New Brunswick, the 90 per cent owned Rosh Pinah mine in Namibia and the 90 per cent owned Perkoa mine in Burkina Faso.
