Small business counselling and innovation programs in northeastern Ontario received funding from FedNor.

Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing–Timiskaming, made the announcement in Kirkland Lake, March 13.

The Kirkland & District Community Development Corporation pocketed $1.6 million in operating funds to continue with its small business assistance programs and mentoring for the next five years.

The Materials Joining Innovation Centre (MaJIC) received $301,500 to buy and install new equipment, manage and promote its programming and services, and get some accreditation needed to provide services to major industrial sectors, including aerospace, defense, automotive and nuclear.

“Small businesses are the driving force behind the Canadian economy and I am thrilled that today’s announcement will support this vital sector by creating opportunities for local businesses. By investing in these priority projects, FedNor is helping to position Kirkland Lake and surrounding areas for sustainable growth and economic prosperity,” said Rota, in a FedNor news release.
