Tri-Town air service hits 1,500 mark (10/02)

Community leaders in the Tri-Town area are celebrating Air North's surpassing 1,500 passengers.

Community leaders in the Tri-Town area are celebrating Air North's surpassing 1,500 passengers. Statistics revealed in mid-September, after seven months of service, 1,636 passengers used Air North's service connecting the Earlton Airport to Toronto. Most passengers were on business travel.

The service is subsidized by a pooling of funds from FedNor, Temfund, the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission and the Town of Kirkland Lake.

The resumption of regularly scheduled flights is regarded as a key economic factor in luring Watts Communication Inc. to the area. The Toronto telecommunications firm is considering setting up the region's first call centre.
